The commercial agreement grants Sofascore direct access to the league’s state-of-the-art NHL EDGE positional tracking data, with technical support provided by official league data partner Sportradar, marking Sofascore’s inaugural entry into professional ice hockey. By integrating its product and engineering teams with the league’s proprietary data infrastructure, Sofascore will roll out an advanced suite of analytical tools across its platform, which currently serves over 120 million sports fans annually across twenty-five disciplines. Highlighting the value of the international collaboration, Sofascore’s co-founder and CEO, Zlatko Hrkać, emphasised the alignment between advanced data transparency and consumer experience. “We’ve spent years building Sofascore around one idea: fans deserve to see the game with the same clarity the people inside it do.” “Working directly with the NHL’s own data and technology lets us do that for hockey, on a global scale. “This is just the beginning of what we’re committed to building together,” Hrkać said. Echoing these sentiments, NHL group VP of business development, Jason Jazayeri, underscored the digital growth priorities driving the partnership. “Innovation and fan engagement are at the heart of everything we do, and our partnership with Sofascore reflects both priorities.” “Together, we’re unlocking ways for fans around the world to experience the NHL through new advanced stats, powered by NHL EDGE data. “As the NHL continues growing globally, we’re committed to meeting fans where they are and delivering experiences that make the game more accessible, insightful and exciting than ever before,” Jazayeri said. The newly developed statistical toolkit features real-time play-by-play event mapping, next-generation shot maps detailing location, type, and quality, and innovative live metrics such as Offensive Intensity to track territorial dominance. Additionally, the platform introduces zone-based Attack Zones alongside sophisticated expected-value models, including general and goalie-specific expected goals metrics. These features aim to bridge the gap between casual fan consumption and professional-grade analytical clarity, reinforcing the organisation’s global expansion objectives.
