Amanda Staveley Consortium Truth Emerges as PIF Make Newcastle United Stance Clear

Amanda Staveley consortium truth emerges as PIF make Newcastle United stance clear Former Newcastle director Amanda Staveley has been linked with a consortium bid to buy a Premier League club Comments Lee Ryder Chief Newcastle United Writer 10:44, 29 Apr 2026 Updated 10:47, 29 Apr 2026 View Image Yasir Al-Rumayyan (left); and Amanda Staveley (Image: Craig Mercer/MB Media; Serena Taylor/Newcastle United) Newcastle United are yet to receive any contact from former director Amanda Staveley on a possible return to St James' Park. ‌ Sunday morning reports linked Staveley with a £2bn US consortium who could see Newcastle as a potential club to approach for a takeover. Both United and West Ham were mentioned, although the Hammers have now reacted to takeover talk in the aftermath of Sunday's suggestions. ‌ One source at West Ham made it clear that co-owner David Sullivan is not keen on selling any shares at the London Stadium, and in actual fact wants to buy more. Staveley is still admired by the powers that be at PIF after leading the way to the 2021 takeover. ‌ But Chronicle Live has learned that PIF have also not had any approach and any such plans for a new takeover bid have not been communicated to the Saudi-backers. PIF will jet into the North East tomorrow to begin a three-day summit meeting with bosses at Maften Hall. Since leaving the club two years ago, she has been spotted at Tottenham Hotspur and was linked with finding a buyer for the London club. ‌ PIF's vision has been made clear in the last fortnight with the Saudi majority shareholders firmly focused on life at Newcastle. Under CEO David Hopkinson, the plan is to advance further up football's Money League and close the gap on the likes of Man City and Liverpool as far as revenue is concerned. Chronicle Live understands that Newcastle are very much part of PIF's Strategic Portfolio. It was described last week as: "The Strategic Portfolio will actively manage key strategic assets to maximise financial returns and the economic impact of PIF’s companies, while supporting their efforts to attract capital and become global champions. Through the Strategic Portfolio, PIF will also continue to invest in opportunities arising from long-term global trends." When Chronicle Live pressed those close to the club on whether the Saudi-backers were committed, we were told to refer back to Yasir Al-Rumayyan's opening words as owner back in 2021. He said then: "You will hear from us less often, but I can assure you that we will always be actively engaged." ‌ On leaving Newcastle as director in 2024, Staveley said: "I know PIF and RB will continue to be remarkable custodians - and the club will receive the required support over the coming years." Hopkinson is overseeing the day to day running of the club. Hopkinson said on December 1, when asked about PIF's focus: "You're talking about a fund where, the last time I looked, it had £1.2 trillion of investments. This is a major, major global player. But I truly believe in my heart of hearts that we are their favourite investment. I think we take up so much of their shared mind and heart, way more than would be warranted given the size of the investment."
