Aston Villa chief sends transfer warning ahead of summer window Aston Villa chief Damian Vidagany has been speaking about the upcoming summer transfer window Comments Sport John Townley Aston Villa correspondent 15:20, 21 Apr 2026 Updated 15:27, 21 Apr 2026 View Image Damian Vidagany (Image: PA) Aston Villa’s director of football operations, Damian Vidagany , insists that maintaining the club’s culture is more important than spending heavily on new players. Villa are restricted by financial regulations that limit their spending on wages, transfers, and agents’ fees to 70 per cent of their revenue as they compete in European competition. Just one more league win will likely secure Villa’s qualification for the Champions League , marking a return to UEFA’s elite club competition after reaching the quarter-finals last season. However, despite recording the 13th-highest revenue in Europe at £384 million in 2023/24, Villa have been unable to spend at the same level as their rivals, who generate greater income from other revenue streams. Vidagany, who also addressed financial restrictions during a fan Q&A last weekend, emphasised the importance of building the right environment within the club. Sometimes it is much more important to keep a culture,” Vidagany explained. “It is something I have experienced from when I was a fan, reading the paper about which signings are coming to my club. “Then, one year, my club Valencia signed three champions of the world after the 1994 World Cup, and I thought we’d have the best season of my life. It was a flop. “Then there was a season after being champions of La Liga; we sold a lot of players and then we won La Liga again. “I think that the most important thing we create in this club is the culture, and that every player is breathing and having this culture. “We should be a club able to find and buy stars, and mainly to create these stars - this is the most important thing. How do you create stars? High standards, togetherness, and the good atmosphere we have in this club.” Article continues below Sky Sports, HBO Max, Netflix and Disney+ with Ultimate TV package This article contains affiliate links, we will receive a commission on any sales we generate from it.
