Unveiled ahead of Friday night’s Queensland Derby, the initiative is a collaborative effort to honour the legacy of the late Carl Webb (Cowboy #168), a figure who represented both clubs with a trademark toughness and deep community connection. The program aims to provide vital financial support to grassroots rugby league clubs, specifically targeting regional and remote areas of Queensland that shaped Webb’s journey. Noting that the initiative is a fitting tribute to Webb’s impact, Cowboys CEO, Micheal Luck, said: “Carl’s journey is deeply connected to both the Cowboys and Broncos, and more importantly to the regional communities that shaped him.” “This initiative is about… ensuring his legacy continues to make a real difference,” Luck said. Highlighting the importance of supporting the game’s volunteers and committees, Broncos CEO, Dave Donaghy, added: “This grant is about backing the clubs and the people behind them… that build the game from the ground up.” The initiative delivers a total of $60,000 in direct funding to the Queensland rugby league ecosystem: The ‘Stronger Together’ grants are designed to address the foundational needs of community clubs.
