EA Sports launches “The World Game” update for FC 26 and FC Mobile - Inside World Football

EA Sports launches “The World Game” update for FC 26 and FC Mobile 2nd June 2026 By Andy Elliott --> June 2 – EA Sports FC is once again embracing international football’s biggest stage with the launch of “The World’s Game” update, a major new tournament mode designed to capture the atmosphere and scale of the World Cup across both FC 26 and FC Mobile. The update, which arrives on Thursday, gives players the opportunity to guide one of 53 licensed national teams through a tournament structure closely (but unofficially) resembling the expanded 48-team World Cup format that will be used this summer. The move is extra important given EA’s complicated relationship with FIFA. After nearly three decades together, the gaming giant and world football’s governing body ended one of the sports industry’s most lucrative partnerships in 2022 following a breakdown in negotiations over licensing rights. The split saw FIFA lose its place in the title of the world’s best-selling football video game series, with EA rebranding the franchise as EA SPORTS FC from 2023 onwards. At the time, the separation appeared to signal the end of FIFA’s involvement in EA’s football ecosystem. However, while the two organisations have remained commercially apart, EA has continued to incorporate international football and World Cup-inspired content into its games, reflecting the enduring appeal of national team competition among players worldwide. It still works closely with UEFA to replicate the Euros and Champions League – so that gap has in part been filled – but does feel particularly gaping when the World Cup rolls around every four years. Of the 53 licensed national teams available, 41 represent countries participating in this summer’s global tournament, including the recently-announced Brazil update which will see the Selecao finally return after years away from EA’s franchise. EA has also strengthened its national team portfolio through new licensing agreements with Brazil, Spain and Portugal, enabling the inclusion of official kits, crests and player likenesses from three of world football’s most recognisable brands. Beyond the teams themselves, EA has added several new venues to ‘enhance’ the tournament experience. Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts and Toronto’s BMO Field join the game alongside a newly created arena, Central Maw, designed to evoke the atmosphere associated with major international football events. The update will be available across both console and mobile platforms, although with slightly different formats. FC 26 players can compete through the full 48-team competition, while FC Mobile users can jump directly into a customised knockout bracket beginning at the round of 16 stage. International football content will also extend beyond the standalone tournament. More than 50 national teams will be available for exhibition matches in Kick Off mode, while Football Ultimate Team will receive dedicated Festival of Football campaigns and themed events throughout the summer. EA’s update continues a strategy that has allowed the company to maintain its position at the centre of football gaming despite losing the FIFA name four years ago. The publisher still boasts a vast licensing network that includes more than 20,000 players, over 750 clubs and national teams, 120-plus stadiums and 35 leagues through partnerships with more than 300 football organisations worldwide.
