Eddie Hearn, Not Zuffa, Reveals Shakur Stevenson’s Zuffa Signing - Boxing Insider

Headlines Eddie Hearn Took His Ball and Went Home. Except It Was Never His Ball. August 21, 2026 • 4 min read Share Copied! By Larry Goldberg Tyson Fury posted a video this morning and said the quiet part out loud: the fight does not look like it is going to happen, and according to him the reason is that Eddie Hearn and Anthony Joshua want more money to take it to America. He called them disgusting, money-thirsty pieces of you-know-what, told them to keep running, and threw in that Eddie is nothing more than a bag carrier. Those are Fury’s words, not mine. Ignore the language for a second. Fury has always been a promoter’s nightmare and a walking quote factory, and half of what comes out of his mouth is pure theater. Still, look at the list he actually put on the table. Boxing deals. Darts deals. Snooker deals. Years of Saudi money pouring into the Matchroom operation across every sport Eddie runs. Fury did not invent any of that. It is all on the public record. And now, with the biggest British fight of a generation sitting right there, Eddie is the one holding out for extra. Last week I told Eddie to go home and get his shine box . I caught some heat for it. People insisted I was being unfair to a man simply protecting his fighter’s contractual rights. Fine. Then Eddie sat down with IFL TV and made the case for me better than I ever could. Watch the interview yourself. He says Matchroom is “just asking for money that’s owed.” Owed from what exactly? By his own telling, from earlier deals. Darts. Snooker. Boxing. He is linking old invoices to a brand-new fight. Then Kugan Cassius asks the most basic question in the sport: did AJ get paid for the Prenga fight last month? And Eddie, a man who can talk for four minutes without drawing breath, goes quiet. That is a contractual position for another day, he says. The founder of IFL TV looked every bit as puzzled as the rest of us. Think about what that silence actually means. Either AJ got paid and Eddie is being deliberately coy for leverage, or AJ did not get paid and Eddie still cannot collect after signing his fighter into a warm-up against the deepest pockets in the game. Neither version looks good for the man presenting himself as the only grown-up in the room. Let me be fair for one paragraph. Collecting money that is genuinely owed under previous contracts is legitimate. If Matchroom is still waiting on the Prenga purse, earlier boxing events, darts, snooker, or promotional fees, then Eddie is entitled to get paid what the contracts say. Businesses and fighters should not have to chase what is already due. Separately, a fight in America changes AJ’s tax position, and a UK fighter can genuinely net less from a New York payday than a London one. The contract says UK. If the people writing the checks want to move it, the fighter ought to be made whole. Those claims on their own are reasonable. But that is not the full story, and it is the part most of the comments still miss. This is not a typical negotiation. In a normal one, two promoters sit across a table, each holds something the other needs, and they grind out a number. That is not what is happening. There is one paymaster. One landlord. Turki Alalshikh is not the other side of the table. He is the table, the room, and the entire building. He has bankrolled Eddie’s boxing, his darts, and his snooker for years. You do not hold out against the man who signs every check in your ecosystem. You especially do not do it while Netflix is already running promos during WWE Raw and Madison Square Garden is warming up the marquee. Eddie says everybody wants the fight in New York except him and AJ. He says they are not bluffing. He has even threatened to sue Dana White simply for walking into MSG. Legally he may be correct on all of it. I have said before that in a perfect world this fight belongs in a seventy-thousand-seat stadium in England. We are long past the perfect world. Fury has agreed to America. Netflix wants America. Turki wants America. MSG wants America. The only people still standing in the doorway are Eddie and AJ. And every day they stay there, the price they are defending shrinks because the fight itself becomes less certain. So Eddie took his ball and went home. Except it was never his ball. It is Turki’s ball, Turki’s field, Turki’s league, and Turki has been covering the equipment costs for years. When you walk off with someone else’s ball, they do not chase you. They simply buy another one and choose two new captains. Dana White is already standing there with his hand raised. And Turki has other captains available. Fury’s video was crude. Underneath the swearing it was also accurate about the sequence of events. The money was there. The fight was there. The date was close enough that a major streamer started advertising it. And the holdout is not coming from the fighter who spent a decade avoiding this matchup. It is coming from the promoter who once told the world he would clean Turki’s shoes if asked. Eddie, you cannot shine the man’s shoes on Monday and then send him an invoice on Friday. Choose a lane. Get the money that is actually owed, accept the tax make-whole, sign the addendum, take the massive pile still sitting on the table, and give the public the fight. Because if this collapses over outstanding invoices, nobody will remember the contractual fine print. They will remember who killed Fury versus Joshua. And that name will not be Turki’s.
