Videoland, a subsidiary of Belgium’s DPG Media with a reported 1.7 million subscribers, looks to add Viaplay’s access to live sports, including Formula One auto racing, the English Premier League soccer and international darts competition, among others. Upon completion of the deal, the sports rights and programming of the Nordic streaming service will be integrated into Videoland. Viaplay’s 50 Dutch employees will join DPG Media. “It has long been our ambition to build a strong second pillar with sports alongside our entertainment offering,” said Ellen van den Berghe, director of streaming at DPG Media. Videoland operates as part of RTL Nederland, which DPG Media acquired from the French/German conglomerate RTL Group for in 2025 for $1.3 billion. Swedish-based Viaplay Group, which once had designs on entering the U.S. SVOD market, continues to sell off assets, including seven major international business operations and auxiliary assets as part of its corporate downscaling and “strategic transformation” to stave off bankruptcy. “The proceeds of the sale will enable us to accelerate the deleveraging and strengthening of the Group’s financial profile,” said CEO Jørgen Madsen Lindemann. “We are delighted that a Dutch business with such strong local roots is acquiring the operations, and will be able to focus on developing them further moving forward.” Subscribe HERE to the FREE Media Play News Daily Newsletter!
