KNOX Hydration secures front-of-shirt deal with Newcastle United 16th June 2026 By Andy Elliott --> June 16 – Newcastle United have replaced Saudi-owned Sela as their front-of-shirt sponsor, agreeing a three-year deal with sports drinks company KNOX Hydration worth up to £60 million. The agreement represents another significant commercial milestone for the club, but also marks the gradual unwinding of some of the most visible Saudi-linked sponsorship arrangements put in place following the Public Investment Fund’s takeover of Newcastle in 2021. KNOX, a South African hydration brand with no links to PIF, will succeed Sela as Newcastle’s principal shirt partner. The company is already set to take over naming rights for the club’s training ground from July 1 in a separate deal worth £6 million per season. Combined, the agreements could be worth as much as £78 million over the course of the partnership if performance-related bonuses are triggered, according to figures provided by the club. Sela’s position as front-of-shirt sponsor attracted scrutiny because of its ownership structure. The events and entertainment company is controlled by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, which also owns an 85% stake in Newcastle. While the arrangement complied with Premier League regulations, it became one of the most prominent examples cited by critics concerned about related-party commercial agreements. The arrival of KNOX gives Newcastle a commercially valuable partnership that is independent of the club’s ownership structure, something likely to be viewed favourably as the Premier League continues tightening and punishing financial oversight. Newcastle are operating in an increasingly challenging sponsorship market following the league-wide move away from gambling brands as front-of-shirt partners. Several Premier League clubs are still without headline sponsors for the upcoming season, making Newcastle’s ability to secure a long-term replacement an important achievement. The agreement was concluded so late that the club’s new home shirt had already gone on sale without a sponsor logo – though it has gathered a largely negative response on the design front. Newcastle have confirmed Knox branding will instead be applied locally, with supporters who have already purchased the shirt expected to be offered the opportunity to add the logo free of charge if they (for some reason) wish to. Beyond the shirt sponsorship itself, the two parties are also planning to launch a Newcastle-branded drinks range, creating an additional commercial and advertisement stream that could help the club maximise revenues under the Premier League’s squad cost rules. Discussions are also reportedly ongoing for the club’s first-ever training kit sponsor, though much of that remains under wraps. The KNOX deal may not carry the profile of some of Newcastle’s previous Saudi-backed agreements, but that is arguably part of its significance – with the club seemingly seeking sponsorship revenues that can stand on their own commercial merit.
