Leeds United's recent success can be attributed to their strategic transfer policy, which focuses on acquiring players in their prime, as highlighted by manager Daniel Farke. The club's summer signings, primarily aged 26 to 28, have contributed to an unbeaten streak of six games and a significant eight-point cushion above the relegation zone. This approach not only enhances team performance but also positions Leeds favorably as they prepare for their first FA Cup semi-final in 39 years.
How key Leeds United transfer policy has led to recent success Leeds United are unbeaten in six games across all competitions and are eight points clear of the relegation zone Comments Sport Isaac Johnson Leeds United reporter 13:09, 21 Apr 2026 View Image Dominic Calvert-Lewin was a key incoming (Image: Andrew Yates/Sportimage/SmartFrame) Daniel Farke says Leeds United’s transfer policy of acquiring players in or close to their prime has helped fuel the club’s recent rise in form. All 10 of the club’s summer signings were aged between 26 and 28, with 21-year-old January arrival Facundo Buonanotte the only exception. Leeds have not lost in six games across all competitions and won back to back Premier League games for the first time last week. Saturday’s 3-0 win over Wolves - which followed a first league win at Manchester United for 45 years - saw Leeds go eight points clear of the bottom three, thanks to Tottenham Hotspur drawing 2-2 with Brighton & Hove Albion. Unlike at previous points earlier in the season, the last two matches have seen Leeds able to hold on to in-game leads. Farke partly puts this down to the club’s recruitment strategy. Farke explained : “What is a bit behind it [was] the thinking of the signings in the summer, how we executed our recruitment, that we didn't want just projects. We wanted, for the first season being back, mature players who have played on the top level. “But it's still that as a newly promoted side, you have to grow a bit into a new league and adapt a bit to necessities. We work on this game-management and how to deal with different situations. “If you see progress, it normally means that the players are listening and then they're willing to develop. And we have earned this belief that we can also bring a tight lead over the line, or we can defend under pressure, or we can win games wherever we go.” Sunday brings a first FA Cup semi-final for 39 years but first Leeds must try and do something at Bournemouth, unbeaten in 13 league games, on Wednesday which they have failed to all season - win consecutive away games. Article continues below Despite Wembley lying in wait for their last-four clash with Chelsea, Farke insists it is not a distraction heading into the Bournemouth game. He said: “We're just focused on this game. “Nothing distracts us from this game. We know we are in a good moment, but we know we need to stay with the foot on the gas so until early Thursday morning, once we are back at Thorp Arch, there's just one topic - Bournemouth, and we don't think 1% about Wembley.” FOLLOW OUR LUFC FACEBOOK PAGE!
