Major Villa Park update as Aston Villa make huge North Stand decision Villa Park’s capacity will be reduced to around 37,000 next season after the club announced a new redevelopment plan for the North Stand Comments Sport John Townley Aston Villa correspondent 10:00, 21 Apr 2026 View Image An illustration of the new North Stand at Villa Park Aston Villa have decided to close the North Stand for the entirety of next season in order to accelerate plans to increase the capacity of Villa Park to over 50,000. Nearly a year ago, the club announced plans to refurbish and expand the North Stand , increasing the number of available seats to 12,000, with work originally scheduled for completion by the end of 2027. However, Villa have now opted to fast-track the major redevelopment. The stand will be stripped back to its existing structure, with construction set to be completed by the summer of next year, in time for the start of the 2027/28 campaign. As a result, the capacity of Villa Park will drop to around 37,000 next season before rising above 50,000 for the following campaign, when standard seating and concourse facilities will be fully operational. The temporary closure of the North Stand will require the relocation of affected season ticket holders. The club has confirmed that those impacted will be offered the opportunity to renew their tickets in alternative areas of the stadium at the same price level. Families will be able to relocate together, and affected supporters will also receive priority access to return to the redeveloped North Stand for the 2027/28 season, with the club aiming to offer the same or similar seats where possible. Villa say the accelerated plan will incorporate operational efficiencies, leading to significant cost savings and a shorter construction timeline. The redevelopment will also deliver substantial football infrastructure benefits, including approximately 500 square metres of new first-team changing, medical, and physiotherapy facilities, along with upgrades to all player competition areas. Francesco Calvo, Villa's president of business operations, said: "Temporarily reducing Villa Park’s capacity is not a decision we take lightly. However, it is the right decision and one that we have made with our supporters and the long-term future of the club at the heart of our thinking.
