Minnesota United FC (MNUFC), Allina Health and The Sanneh Foundation launched a nutrition-focused meal kit initiative to combat food insecurity by providing culturally tailored, chef-designed recipes and fresh groceries to local families. The annual program—kicking off Oct. 7 with a volunteer packing event and Oct. 9 distribution at Corcoran Park—leverages MNUFC’s community platform and Allina Health’s nutrition expertise to expand access to healthy food and reinforce ties between nutrition education and community health.

The collaboration will support Sanneh’s Nutritional Services Program and help build the connection between nutrition education, physical activity, and other resources that support lifelong well-being. "We are excited to work with Allina Health and The Sanneh Foundation to help launch this new meal kit initiative that provides local families an avenue to healthy meals and fresh produce," said MNUFC Chief Executive Officer Christina Hennington. "Aligning our commitment to help the community have resources readily available continues to be an important pillar for the club." The annual partnership will kick off on Oct. 7 with a volunteer meal kit-packing event featuring chef-inspired meal kits created by Allianz Field Executive Chef Adam Reitsma and Jesse Haas, MS, CNS, LN, an integrative nutritionist with Allina Health Penny George Institute for Health and Healing. With the community in mind, the meal kit recipes were created from suggestions of produce and grocery items that are common with families who participate in The Sanneh Foundation’s food distributions and are designed to be culturally tailored. Chef Adam and Jesse Haas’ first collaborated recipe is Sweet Potato Succotash, a Native American-inspired dish with corn, beans and root vegetables. "While working with Allina Health and The Sanneh Foundation on this meal initiative, it was important for us to create a dish that was fresh and flavorful but also consisted of ingredients that are simple to prepare and accessible to our neighbors," said Reitsma. "With this recipe, we wanted to start with a base of vegetables that could be tailored to many different cultural flavor profiles, and we want to keep that in mind with future recipes." Volunteers will then help distribute the meal kits, as well as fresh produce, proteins, and pantry staples, to local families at Sanneh’s weekly community food distribution on Oct. 9 at Corcoran Park in South Minneapolis. A longstanding partner since Minnesota United's inaugural season in 2017, supporting the First Team, MNUFC2, the MNUFC Academy and the MNUFC Power Soccer teams as the Official Health Care Provider of MNUFC, Allina Health also supports all levels of soccer in the community, joining Minnesota United's commitment to youth development and community impact with health, nutrition and food access. “As a nonprofit healthcare system focused on supporting our community, Allina Health is eager to explore all of the ways that we can encourage people to stay healthy and active,” said Haas. “Proper nutrition is a huge part of fueling active lifestyles, so we’re excited to join MNUFC and The Sanneh Foundation in providing these delicious meal kits that help make this process easy and fun.” “When we talk about creating healthy communities, it starts with meeting people where they are and making sure families have access to the resources they need to thrive,” said Tony Sanneh, founder and CEO of The Sanneh Foundation. “We’re proud to partner with Minnesota United and Allina Health to bring healthy food, nutrition education and opportunity to families through the power of soccer.” About Allina Health Allina Health is a nonprofit health care system serving Minnesota and western Wisconsin, dedicated to preventing and treating illness and improving the health of individuals, families and communities.
