The Friedkin family has struck a deal linked to a potential NHL expansion effort in Texas through a partnership with Coliseum Global Sports Venue Alliance. The arrangement signals a business move to position the family and Coliseum Global for a role in bringing an NHL franchise or related venue development to the Texas market.
FeeltheThunder 2 months ago I don’t inherently oppose the idea of league expansions, especially given the rapid growth in popularity, which positions the league well to explore new areas of development especially in Texas which does have the biggest hockey development programs for youth in the entire U.S. surprisingly. However, I believe any expansion efforts should be postponed until after 2030. Teams are only now beginning to recover from the constraints of the flat salary cap, and the league is currently experiencing strong momentum and remarkable parity. Interestingly, it seems the NHL itself isn’t likely to pursue any expansion decisions until approximately 2030, aligning with my perspective on timing it seems. 2 Reply
