PIF release new investment statement just hours before crunch Newcastle United visit The roadmap between now and 2030 has been made clear in a PIF board meeting just hours before officials head to Tyneside Comments Lee Ryder Chief Newcastle United Writer 18:00, 29 Apr 2026 View Image Newcastle chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan (Image: Getty Images) Newcastle United's main backers PIF have released a statement underlining their commitment as a global investor just hours before setting off for their crunch meeting at Maften Hall. Toon chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan is expected to lead a PIF delegation to Tyneside for a two-day summit in which a clear roadmap to 2030 will be set out. Just before the visit, PIF pledged more investment into their strategic portfolio, in which Newcastle United's business sits, after a PIF board meeting in Saudi Arabia. It's no coincidence that it comes the day before the meetings at Maften Hall will take place with Saudi's 2030 vision to be a theme throughout the meetings. In short, what it means for the Magpies is that PIF want Newcastle to come with them on that journey to 2030, quashing any talk of selling up or losing interest. The PIF statement read: "PIF's 2026-2030 strategy provides a clear strategic direction for the coming decades. It also strengthens PIF's position as a local and global investor, with a diversified and resilient portfolio that contributes to Saudi Arabia's long-term economic prosperity. "PIF's unique mandate will remain the same: to drive the economic transformation of Saudi Arabia and generate sustainable financial returns." Chronicle Live understands that Newcastle are also part of PIF's Strategic Portfolio. It was described to us as: "The Strategic Portfolio will actively manage key strategic assets to maximise financial returns and the economic impact of PIF’s companies, while supporting their efforts to attract capital and become global champions. Through the Strategic Portfolio, PIF will also continue to invest in opportunities arising from long-term global trends." It comes on the day that CEO David Hopkinson, at another appointment in London, repeated Al-Rumayyan's words of 2023. Back then he said PIF would not rest until Newcastle became the major player in football. Hopkinson, speaking at speaking at the SportsPro London conference at the KIA Oval cricket ground, said: "Our ambition is ultimately to be number one. "How are we going to do that? Frankly, money is the biggest piece of the equation. We’ve got to just generate more revenue, give ourselves a bigger envelope to work with. If we can execute superbly, there might be £100m in annual run rate revenue that could be unlocked. "We’re (at) about £400m. Well, that can become £500m, or stretch to £550m. We start to kick our way into that conversation. That’s our ambition." Hopkinson has also spoken about the 2030 Vision and said on December 1: "I love the reference to 2030 because if it's not time-bound, then it's fantasy. It's where do we need to get to by the end of 2025? Where by 2026? 2027? Where are we ahead, where are we behind? What's our mitigation plan? How are we adjusting things? "What I will not tell you is that we have written the plan for every granular element that's going to happen between now and 2030. But what we have got is a highly specific direction of travel and key milestones that need to be hit. "We're not going to win by accident. We're going to win because we've been thoughtful and strategic about the organisation we've constructed, whose sole purpose is to win."
