The potential reason James didn’t sign with them may have involved Curry himself. James was a free agent after spending eight seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, choosing his next destination. Options included the Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and Philadelphia 76ers. He ultimately chose the 76ers, giving himself another chance at competing for the fifth championship of his career. Warriors insider Marcus Thompson reflected on James’ decision to sign with Philadelphia over Golden State. He pointed out Curry’s availability issues last season, possibly playing a role in James not joining him. “As worried as he is — he seems worried about it,” Thompson said. “I think that’s one of the reasons Bron didn’t come here. He’s like ‘How many games am I going to have to play for ya’ll?’ What happens if I need two weeks off? Ain’t no room for that.” Marcus Thompson shares his concern level on Steph Curry’s knee: “As worried as he is … I think that’s one of the reasons LeBron didn’t come to the Warriors” pic.twitter.com/Q7gPQqWWTT Apr 9, 2026; San Francisco, California, USA; Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James (23) meets with Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry (30) after the game at the Chase Center. For their sake, they hope Stephen Curry is as healthy as he can be at his advanced age. Golden State recently signed Brandon Williams and Georges Niang to the squad. Rounding out their depth, the team anticipates better results to return to the mix of playoff contention. The Warriors ended the 2025-26 campaign with a 37-45 record, sitting at 10th place in the Western Conference standings. Their season ended in the play-in tournament, beating the Los Angeles Clippers before losing to the Phoenix Suns. Golden State will need all the help it can get ahead of next season. If they want to make a deep playoff run, they will need young players to step up in the rotation throughout the ups and downs of the campaign. — Enjoy free coverage of the top news & trending stories with The Big Lead Newsletter — College football Hall of Famer who survived Nazi bombings in WWII dies UFC Paris: Dan Hooker vs Salahdine Parnasse’ main card predictions PS5 launches free live TV featuring UFC, NFL, MMA, soccer, and more Jalen Brunson urges Knicks to move past 2026 title in pursuit of repeat Vikings make first QB move as the dominoes begin to fall Mets make move moments after Luis Robert Jr. lands with Orioles Former LSU head coach, Cardinals safety dies at 85 Red Sox forced to replace Willson Contreras after Yankees series Enes Freedom calls on WNBA’s Cathy Engelbert to stop ‘hiding’ and meet publicly Red Sox announcer apologizes for ’emotional’ comments about Jazz Chisholm © 2025 TheBigLead – All Rights Reserved
