The extension builds on a partnership launched in 2024 through Subway’s Fresh Moves initiative, which focuses on supporting emerging sports and creating opportunities for people to lead more active lifestyles. Over the first two years of the relationship, Subway and Skateboard GB supported six major skateboarding projects across the UK. The resulting facilities now generate more than 300,000 visits annually, while the projects collectively attracted more than 8,000 visitors on their launch days, according to Skateboard GB. The partnership has supported the development and refurbishment of skateboarding spaces alongside community events and coaching initiatives, with projects delivered in locations including Sheffield, Birmingham, Glasgow and London. James Hope‑Gill, CEO of Skateboard GB, said, “Our partnership with Subway has already delivered meaningful change for skateboarding communities across the UK. The six projects we’ve supported together show what happens when you invest in spaces that are built by and for skateboarders. The launch of the Subway Skate Fund takes that commitment even further, and we’re excited to continue this journey and support even more communities in the months ahead.” A central element of the extended partnership will be the Subway Skate Fund, launched in 2026 to provide direct financial support to grassroots skateboarding projects. The fund covers initiatives ranging from community programmes and skateable infrastructure to coaching, events and creative projects. The inaugural funding round attracted more than 80 applications, with grants subsequently awarded to projects including Arches DIY in Glasgow and Friends of Horsforth Skatepark. Kirstey Elston, Senior Marketing Director at Subway UK & Ireland, added, “We’re proud to continue our partnership with Skateboard GB and deepen our investment in the future of UK skateboarding. The response to the projects we have supported so far has been incredible, and it’s clear how much these spaces mean to local communities. The Subway Skate Fund is our way of helping even more people access spaces that let them live more active lifestyles, and we can’t wait to see the ideas, projects and stories that emerge from this next phase.” The extended agreement gives Subway a continued platform within UK skateboarding while providing Skateboard GB with commercial support for grassroots infrastructure, participation and community-led development. The partnership also reflects a broader shift in sports sponsorship, with brands increasingly using commercial partnerships to support participation and physical infrastructure alongside traditional marketing and visibility objectives.
