The Team Appeal funding announcement, made by the Premier at a 1956 Olympics 70 th Anniversary event on Wednesday, represents an investment of $750,000 each to Paralympics Australia and the Australian Olympic Committee. It reaffirms Victoria’s consistent, bipartisan support for athletes striving to realise their dreams of representing Australia. Premier of Victoria Ben Carroll said: “Victoria’s athletes are amongst the best in the world – we’re backing them in with a $1.5 million commitment so they can represent Victoria on the world stage.” Paralympics Australia Chief Executive Cameron Murray said the Victorian Government’s commitment reflected the state’s unwavering dedication to promoting the Paralympic Movement and recognising the outstanding accomplishments of all Australian athletes. “Right across Victoria and across the nation, athletes are working extremely hard day-in and day-out with the goal of becoming part of the Australian Paralympic Team for LA28,” Mr Murray said. “On behalf of Paralympics Australia, thank you to Premier Carroll and the Victorian Government for your genuine support and this generous boost towards our LA28 campaign.” “It is our role to ensure we deliver our Australian team in the best possible way, including providing the support athletes and teams need to qualify and to provide the optimal performance environment to give them the best chance of success when they are at the Games. “The cost of sending the Australian Paralympic Team to LA will be significantly higher than it was for Paris 2024. Delivering an Australian Team of athletes with disability along with coaches, team managers, carers, medical experts and Paralympics Australia’s outstanding operational staff is an enormous undertaking and there are, of course, substantial expenses involved. “This commitment by the Victorian Government to invest in the 2028 Australian Paralympic Team will make a genuine material difference to our efforts and is also a strong endorsement of the ideals of the Australian Paralympic Movement, which maintains that all Australians deserve the right to pursue sport as far as their determination and skill will take them. “On behalf of Paralympics Australia, thank you to Premier Carroll and the Victorian Government for your genuine support and this generous boost towards our LA28 campaign.” Victoria is the second state to commit to the LA28 Team Appeal following a contribution announced by the South Australian Government last year. Your Para Sport Journey Begins Here Paralympics Australia is only able to continue doing its work driving the Paralympic Movement forward in Australia because of the generous support it receives from Government, Corporate Partners and donors. The focus continues to be on delivering teams to each Summer and Winter Paralympic Games and supporting Para athletes as they enter and progress through the Para sport system and into their post-sporting careers.
