If approved by the council, the ordinance would place a ballot measure before Kansas City voters on April 6. 2027. See the latest headlines in Kansas City and across Kansas, Missouri The proposal would apply to future stadiums, arenas or similar venues with at least 2,500 seats that receive what the ordinance defines as material support from the city. That support includes direct city funding, city-issued bonds, tax revenue, tax breaks or abatements and certain city-owned property. If voters approve the measure in April, any qualifying venue plan would require majority voter approval before the city could move forward with the project. The proposed restriction would not apply to venue projects funded exclusively with private, federal, state or county money that do not receive material support from Kansas City. Download WDAF+ for Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV The measure is not expected to impact the Kansas City Royals’ proposed Crown Center stadium project or the KC Current’s approved expansion plans, regardless of what voters decide. The full City Council is scheduled to take up the proposal Thursday at 2 p.m. If approved by the council, the question will go before Kansas City voters next spring. \All facts in this report were gathered by journalists employed by\ \WDAF\ \.
